Stainless steel 1.4301 (304) and 1.4307 (304L) are among the most widely used stainless steel grades. Grade 304 stainless steel is known for its excellent corrosion resistance, mechanical properties, and versatility. Due to its 18% chromium and 8% nickel composition, it is still commonly referred to as 18/8 stainless steel.

304L (UNS S30403) is a low-carbon version of 304, preferred for its better machinability (free-machining properties). 304 stainless steel offers a great balance of strength and corrosion resistance, making it suitable for nearly all industries. Cold working can further enhance its hardness and strength, though it does not respond to heat treatment.

1.4301 exhibits good corrosion resistance, particularly in natural environments, but should be used with caution in high-chloride or seawater conditions. Applications in acidic media require case-by-case evaluation. Additionally, 1.4301 is not resistant to intergranular corrosion after welding, so post-weld corrosion resistance may require additional treatment.

304 and 304L stainless steels offer excellent polishing and deep drawing properties, making them widely used in the oil industry, chemical industry, petrochemical sector, and automotive applications.
